Who Turns Out the Stars at Night?
Posted by Bob in Musings about Life on 01/14/2005
If you are very lucky, you may hear a child ask this question.
It warms your heart. It contains the essence of childhood.
And that question makes all the sense in the world.
To a child.
The child’s world is his home. Lights go on because one of those All-Knowing Grown Ups turn them off. Everything is done by us Grown Ups, one of us giants who know everything that is in their tiny world.
So back to the child’s question, “Who turns the stars out at night?”
The real answer is that that is not the right question. Can you imagine a bunch of tiny children talking about this question on and on and on? How close would they EVER come to the truth?
I can imagine it. I have read a lot of theology.
Response to Mark
I did not write “Hell is Eternal Life” to ridicule Christians. I wrote it to stop Christians from falling for every fanaticism somebody shoves under their noses.
I simply don’t have the same New Testament all these Jehovists do. Jesus kept warning over and over and over about the exact kind of twisters Pro-Lifers and anti-evolutionists on the right are, and the leftist anti-poverty types are.
I want to say, STOP IT! Stop worrying yourself sick about fetuses or six day creationism or whatever else the screamers have got you hooked on right now.
Good is good. Bad is bad. Pain is bad. Happiness is good. If you make a Mystery out of this, you are a fool, and an evil fool at that.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Would you like to be born into the third world?
A child would say if it hurts it’s bad. A theologian would say otherwise. Follow their example and you will end up the same Place they will.
Take your choice.
I Deeply Respect Belief
One thing I want to make perfectly clear is that when I wrote the article below I was NOT, repeat NOT, making fun of people who honestly believe.
What I AM making fun of is the people Jesus warned about over and over and over.
The second anyone has a decent belief or a decent idea, someone takes advantage of them. It happens to children all the time. Remember? “Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Those of us who have honest beliefs and honest feelings are the ones the Judas goat leads to slaughter. We are the sheep Jesus keeps talking about, “Feed my sheep.”
Don’t lead His sheep into cruel and stupid things by using their feelings and their beliefs. Don’t get yourself a job as a pro-life leader by telling them that life on THIS earth, no matter how hellish, is good.
Hell is NOT good. It IS eternal life, but it is NOT good.
Bad is not good.
Pain is not good.
The God Jesus spoke of does not thrive on your agony.
Hell Is Eternal Life

More than one priest has told me that mercy killing is always wrong because life, no matter how hideous, is precious. And professional pro-lifers tell me the same thing.
For pro-lifers the words “quality of life” are poison. Life is infinitely precious, the quality of that life is of NO importance.
Good news for pro-lifers! As a fundamentalist preacher pointed out, according to Christian doctrine, no one will EVER die.
“The wages of sin is death,” is wrong. The wages of sin is eternal life.
It will be what one might call a low quality of life.
But that doesn’t matter, does it?
Silly

That word keeps echoing in my mind.
Christianity’s early history says grown men, bishops, were literally killing each other over the exact Nature of God. They weren’t out on missionary efforts. They were literally fighting over the exact nature of God.
Do you understand the exact nature of God?
Does anybody?
In Constantinople there were chariot races and the two big groups were the Blues and the Greens. Each group had its stable of horses. Each also had its theology.
I’m a history nut. I enjoy this kind of thing. But it would take many boring pages to explain the exact nature of God the Blues championed versus the one the Greens championed. It had to do with whether Christ was at the beginning or not.
Roman Catholics and Orthodox don’t let each other attend their respective Eucharists because of the filioque.
The Roman Catholic filioque says that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son while the Orthodox Church’s much older doctrine says the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father only.
God really worries about this, day and night. No matter how pious you are, if you don’t have the right idea about this proceedeth stuff, you can’t sit at the Lord’s Supper.
Somebody once said that if two or more people gather together in Jesus’ name, there He would be also.
But that was just Jesus who said that, and nobody can make a living listening to Him.
Back in the 1930s, Stalin was already everything from a scientific genius to a prophet to a hero to everything else the USSR could bestow. So he decided to become an “intellectual.”
So back to Wordism.
In the 1930s, Stalin got bored with being declared a Genius and a Hero and all the rest. He wanted to be an Intellectual, too.
Stalin decided to find a Theoretical Question to deal with. One Great Question — I won’t bore you with the details — was whether, in Marxist Theory, something was part of superstructure or part of the Base. One professor who said whateverthhellitwas was part of the Marxist Base was being overwhelmed by the other Marxist Intellectuals and they were getting ready to arrest him — ARREST him, mind you, this was the routine fate of anybody who lost an academic Wordist debate.
Then Stalin intervened and said whateverthehellitwas was indeed part of the Base and not the superstructure and all the other professors said they had been wrong and Stalin was a theoretical genius.
Yes, they were all adults.
These are the same people who tell me race isn’t important. What is important, they tell me, is Catholicism or Calvinism or Islam or Jehovism or Moonieism or Liberty, Equality and Fraternity or the Flat Tax or their particular variety of True Socialism — there are at least a hundred that I know of — or Constitutionalism or True Americanism or the Brotherhood of Man or Going Where No Man Has Gone Before or the Rights of Native Americans and Animals — there doesn’t seem to be distinction — or Evil Man’s Destruction of Nature or….
To be continued….
Wordism: Back to Basics

In Latin America, one interesting phenomenon was the women in the Catholic Church who went up the church aisle on their knees.
For those of you who have taken time out from reading what Jehovists call the Bible to read the New Testament, there may be a problem with this. Jesus specifically denounced those who showed off their piety.
But I doubt these women have any problem.
One of my landladies down there was one of 22 children, so after she had five she had her tubes tied off and the priest banned her from the church. But she still had the candles burning all day as you went down the stairs and religious pictures everywhere.
But all of this is outside my sphere of judgement.
No, I do not feel that any of these people are in any way related to me. So, though I think I follow Christ, I have ceased to call myself a Christian. All the “Christians” want to dump their baggage on me.
They say I must accept the Wordism Jesus had, if He wanted to stay alive awhile, had to give lip service to. They think He could speak freely.
They’re morons. But they’re also loud, fanatical morons.
So it’s better to act like they’re not there, the way I act like Buddhists or Confuscianists are not there.
They are all the True Wordists. (From the May 15, 1999 WOL: Wordism)
Which means they’re all silly.
I have no feeling for any “conservative” who says race is unimportant. That is Wordism.
The Wordist is a person who denies all ties of blood. His greatest enemy is race. This was true of Lenin, this is true of the Pope, this is true of the Reverend Moon.
The Reverend Moon demands interracial marriages. He wants people to be united only by the Reverend Moon, the Second Christ, not by blood.
If a sterile priest waves his arms over a black and a Scandinavian, that is the True Religion.
Shaun Hannity said that if he sees a black and blond together all he sees is two Children of Christ. He also says that no Christian can say otherwise.
Marxists say precisely the same thing. Libertarians say the same thing. Only the Book unites them. Every shred of feeling and conscience has to lie between the covers of a book.
So who cares which Book it is?
Conscientious Objectors

When I was ten, our family had to live in Columbia for a year so my brother could attend a college-preparatory high school. Her son was a conscientious objector during World War II, and she showed me the Silver Star he won in that war.
During World War II, conscientious objectors were send into the Medical Corps. The Medical Corps had the highest percentage of Medal of Honor winners of any branch of service.
World War II was what liberals and therefore respectable conservatives think of as The Good War.
For the respectable conservatives the Good War was wonderful. Liberals were telling them what good boys they were. They had themselves an ENORMOUS military, which is what respectable conservatives live for.
For liberals, the war was against the extreme right, not the left. Even more important, they were side-by-side with The Great Progressive Force under Comrade Stalin. The Good War not only saved the leftist homeland, it turned a third of the human race over to the Progressive Forces, complete with kill-line fences around it.
Practically none of the Peace Generation ever criticized World War Two, except by saying that the United States should have been in it in 1933 instead of 1941.
The Love Generation of the 1960s did not object to war. They objected to any action against Progressive Forces like the Viet Cong or the Khmer Rouge. They did not even want to be medics to the soldiers they called “hired killers” fighting against Progressivism in Vietnam or anywhere else.
Those were the Flower Children.
The Quakers were, as Solzhenitsyn points out, pipelines for any kind of propanda Comrade Stalin wanted put out. They were only outside group he WELCOMED into the Gulag. They didn’t want to run a Gulag themselves, but they sure were glad it was there.
These people are NOT cowards. If they are given a chance to fight for “anti-racism,” which means against whites or native country, they can be very, very brave indeed.
They learn that in college. You know, the college you pay for.
The Leftist Percentage

When Bill O’Reily first began his investigation of the Red Cross waste of 9/11 donations he was astonished (O’Reilly is always asonished by reality. He was an Education major) to find that the first thing the Red Cross gave a huge grant to was an Anti-Hate Project.
The Red Cross had said it was collecting money for the families of 9/11 victims. This Anti-Hate project had nothing to do with that. Like all Anti-Hate projects, all the money goes entirely to hire professional liberals.
Every major charitable organization must first give a sizable contribution, right off the top, to hire liberals.
Yes, it’s just like the Mafia. If you don’t pay up (these hit men don’t use guns) but you get hit.
The United Way gave huge amounts of money to the Urban League and other such organizations at least since the 1950s. There is always money in every major charitable organization to that is used to hire professional liberals.
