I am happy to advertise the web site of somebody who reads mine. We are the alternative media and we need to back each other up.
Smurfette’s web page talks about the 25 languages the Smurfs are published in. This is pretty relevant to me, since I was reading Smurfs in German long before they appeared in the US. In German, the word “smurf” is used as a verb the same way it is in English.
I would like to know if Smurfette is a fan of Asterix too.
Asterix is interesting because it is the only adult comic book I have ever seen.
By this I mean that Asterix is aimed at adults.
There is not a dirty word in it. I do not think there is anything particularly adult about publications that use the kind of words we used to scratch on the walls of the Boy’s Room when we were in grammar school.
Asterix can best be understood by an adult mind.
For instance, Asterix says exactly how Europeans look at each other.
To someone who is interested in languages, Asterix is a gold mine. It is published in three different versions of Dutch. Besides which, I have a couple of Asterixes that are in Afrikaans.
I also had an Asterix that was in LATIN!
The one thing that worries me about the Smurfs is that they have have a grand total of one female, who is unmarried.
She has blond hair and blue skin.

Elves don’t need she-elves; if a tribe has any, its only because they want someone to love more dearly.
An olden poet named Mr. Sturluson (Little Steer’s Son) says that that is because they are self-evolved, although the gods supervised their sprouting in earth and stone.
If our forefathers weren’t on to something, maybe they were on something: some of the elves of yore have names like “Hemp” and “Mind-Stare.”
So how did Peyo get to know the Smurfs’ tribe? Did they invite him down into the mountain?

I’m a fan of the pre-1947 Warner Brothers cartoons. (These
are the ones with the _real_ art and the hand-painted
backgrounds.)
All of them appeal to all ages, but some are more
focused on adults. These are the ones featuring
caricatured celebrities. Nothing dirty, but children
wouldn’t find these as funny as adults would.
btw, I wasn’t alive in 1947. I discovered these
cartoons when they were released into TV syndication
in the late 1970s.

You know, I used to smurf with Asterix. Like you, he is smurfy hot. He introduced me to Vercingetorix. It was so wonderful to meet a historical figure. I just think it’s SOOO bad they put him in that cage. That Caesar reminds me of Gargumel.

The Smurfs are Communist Propaganda writ large. The Smurfs all live in a collective, everyone works as much or as little as they choose, everyone is considered equal no matter what they contribute, there is no private ownership of property, there is no money, there is no sex. Obviously, Papa Smurf is an idealized Lenin (notice the beard?). I could go on all day. But the most obvious part is the enemy of the Smurfs. Lets look at the Smurfs main enemy. He is a big evil White guy who tries to catch them and turn them into gold. To top it off—the show was first made in Sweden.
Now Asterix is good stuff. I won’t touch that.

Peter, what is implicit in your question is the assumption that I was right there when Peyo met the Smurfs, centuries ago.
Someone also asked me for details about the disaster that produced the Black Sea twelve thousand years ago.
You seem to think that since I am so old I must have been right there.
Let me repeat again: The fact is that I was a thousand miles away at the time.
I didn’t know Peyo. I knew his daddy.
