About the copyright laws, I didn’t like what Bono did with that. But then again, I don’t think they’d kill him for giving the establishment what it wanted. I don’t think he was being conservative by extending copyrights. A real conservative wants the people to have access to their cultural heritage. Copyright extension just keeps old un-PC books out of print and Disney in control of Mickey.

I always thought the timing with the impeachment and Sonny Bono’s prominant role on the coming investigation made his death a bit suspicious but I didn’t know about his upcoming run for senate.

Sonny Bono was trying to get “limited Times” to mean, in his words, “forever minus a day.” He was trying to get “Progress of Science and useful Arts” to mean “I Got You, Babe”. He was successful. Thanks to the Rehnquist Court, Sonny Bono’s interpretation of Article 1, Section 8 is now the law of the land.

1. Metzenbaum’s wife died when the Metzenbaums were out riding
their bicycles. So goes the official version. I thought this
was very odd. People do die while out riding around on bicycles,
but usually because a vehicle slammed into them. Not because
they “fell off.” I think this was shortly after Ashbrook died.
2. Bono was in the early stages of a major revision of the U.S.
copyright laws. I’m not entirely sure what’s happened on this. (It’s
a separate legal specialty area. Just look at the copyright
info under http://www.loc.gov
