Misinterpretation

Posted by Bob on April 2nd, 2006 under Comment Responses

Whe kanefromsf used the term “economic determinism” I went off into some thoughts about the term.

I apologized to kane on Stormfront.

But what I was discussing was not kane, it was what he made me think of.

Thius problem has occurred with every commenter at one time or another, and it makes it very hard for me to write.

Do you really want me to go off into the usual, “Well, I’m sure kane didn’t exactly mean …”

You’re the people I write for. Do you really want to deal with that standard backtracking in every article?

I am DEALING with what you say to me. You say something and I say something. You then corrrect me in your comments. If I offer oe person an apology I have to put those apolgies in all .

So I just treat commenters like they are tough birds.

Since kane uses the same name on Stormfront and I inserted my reply on Stormfront, I apologized for THAT.

But I cannot deal with every time my subsequent discussion might be interpreted as accusing a person of saying what he didn’t say.

I find all that “Well, x is very intelliigent, so what he really meant to say was …” very distracting and boring, as a reader and as a writer.

I am trying to think of what you made me think of.

No, kane did NOT ask me for an apology. I don’t want to go into that, either.

If I am wrong, you correct me. But let’s not get into this infinite regression so amny people spend their lives on:

“Did you mean…?” “No, what I actually meant was…” “Well, we’re still friends, aren’t we?”

And so on, ad nauseum.

I am not misinterpreting you because I am not interpreting you. I am saying what something makes me think of. If youw ant to correct it, correct it and I’ll approve the comment, which should lay the matter to rest.
