    FTWR 2 & 3 are posted at truebeat or I can send you copies via email. They’re ready for editing when you can. Just return them to me via email when you finish.

    I’m waiting for transcription pedals to arrive and then I’ll start on FTWR-4.

    I checked up on what’s necessary to make them available through amazon.com and barnsandnoble.com. It’s an easy straight forward process and anyone can do it. There’s NO mention at all about acceptable content – appears to be wide open!

    Fabulous edit job on FTWR-1. It’s a clear example of how critical editing is for readability. Frank and I had done nearly verbatim transcriptions on #2 and #3 but we had to do some light editing for readability.

    Do you have time to do the same to #2 and #3? I’d like to standardize all three below making them available to everyone.

    No problem with file size, no need to zip. The file you sent me was only 92k. Also, for some reason your version is best without indenting the opening sentence, while the 2nd and 3rd seem better with(?) Maybe because you broke it into smaller paragraphs?

    Had some minor issues with double lines between paragraphs – the font size changed to margal 12pt for some reason. I think you said you’re using a mac – maybe part of the conversion process. Also, somewhat bizarre but the table with Trotsky and Lenin came through with labeling but without photos – assuming you meant to take them out altogether.

    All in all, I’d like to call your pass the “final copy.” I don’t think anyone could have done better. Thanks for all your efforts!

    I spoke with a native Russian speakers about Amara Prenacha. He rewrote the Russian phrase directly from the Cyrillic spelling as “activnie Meropriytiy” in English. He explained this would commonly be used in everyday speech along the lines of: “These are the active plans for expanding the road system next year” or “These are the active plans to prepare for tomorrow’s inspections.” We discussed how this phrase was being used by Horus as “active measures” and he agreed that translation was OK within that context.

    Phonetically, the closest sounds in English would be something like this:
    act-tive-nee Mera-pree-ya-ti-yia

    So, from the Cyrillic I would try to spell it like this -> Amera became Activnie and Prenacha became Merapriyatiyia

    I think anything close will be good – most readers will just skip over the phrase and look up “Active Measures” instead of the English phonetic spelling of the Cyrillic alphabet.

    After converting the first 3 podcasts and doing the first pass on them I’m have to admit that the technology isn’t there yet. Take a look at one of the raw files (4-5-6). It’s taking about 8 hrs to go through one and correct all the missed words, wrong words, punctuation etc. It’s tedious, awfully tedious.

    It seems the professional transcription services use a typist who manipulates foot pedals to control the audio (back up, stop, start). They’re not using software – NaturallySpeaking or anything else I can see. I see these foot pedals for sale on e-bay for about $50. I’m thinking this may be the way to go. With each podcast about 70 min long maybe the pedals would allow a good typist to produce a transcription in….4 hrs? If so, that would be twice as fast.

    I just posted the first pass for FTWR-3. It does contain info about the girl rabbits – it’s quite readable but still has some spelling errors, requires formatting, punctuation and graphics etc.

    No one has volunteered to do the second pass on #3 yet. When you finish up your finals feel free. I kind of feel we’re at a minor plateau right now. We have the first 3 podcasts in different stages of completion. I’d like to finish them up and see what we have and decide which way we want to go.

    Many different uses for these transcriptions and you’ve come up with a new one! Also, I think a list of topics covered would be very beneficial – either made up from the transcriptions or while listening and taking notes. I agree, we do need that done.

    I had some problems with converting FTWR-3, sound quality was poor. I decompressed it and saved as a .wav file and it ran OK. Just took twice as long to run.

    Uploaded Raw files for FTWR 3 to 6 . I’ll take FTWR-3 for the first pass.

    Believe me, I know what you’re saying. I’ve already thought this through.

    First use is a transcription of a podcast. Edited lightly for readability with some graphics to lighten things up. It could be jazzed up with a commentary section after the transcription – where key concepts are reviewed and explained in more detail. IMHO, this would be helpful for most readers.

    Second use is a true ebook. If you re-read my first post – my idea is to transcribe the first 6 podcasts and then turn them into an ebook. I’d like to retail through Amazon! Turning those transcripts into a book is creative – similar to the process of turning a book into a movie script. We need to find the right person for that job – someone with actual literary talent. Most likely, that someone would be a BUGSTER.

    Keep in mind, Horus is drawing his listeners from the fantasy rabbits. Maybe it’d be more beneficial to do a “Dan Brown” on the book than a subversion manual. This is food for thought but something we’ll have to look at and decide down the road.

    Right now lets just get the source material, the first 6 podcasts, transcribed.

    Frank, I know what you’re saying about the paragraph size but that is completely arbitrary – all up to you when you correct the raw file. Commas, periods, paragraphs all are at your discretion. Someone else will do a final proof read and if it doesn’t work it can be changed.

    I pay very little attention to that on the first pass looking mainly at getting all the words and most of the punctuation correct. On the second pass I try to make some order out of the paragraphs. After it looks reasonable I go back and insert graphics which I think do a lot to break up that extremely dense feeling.

    I’ve tried to get through to Horus a few times, he doesn’t realize the amount of content in each podcast. He’ll say something like, “I already went over that in FTWR.” But nobody knows where! There’s no index, no summary. Everything is there somewhere but no one knows where! Like you say, you’re listening to a podcast multiple times – certainly a written copy is extremely helpful not only for reference but ALSO to reach those people who prefer books. As far as Horus is concerned, who cares – it’s all “digital media.”

    Frank – why don’t you grab FTWR-2 from my website and see what you can do with it. Also insert graphics if that works for you. Coniglio Bianco is doing a final pass on FTWR-1.

    I’ll convert a few more files and post them.

    I’m using NaturallySpeaking to do the audio to text conversion. Horus provided a voice sample to set up his profile. The first raw file was not very impressive and it took a massive amount of work to get into the shape you see. However, I was able to feed that file back into the program so it could continue to “learn” Horus’ speech patterns. I ran FTWR-2 and it came out noticeably better. However, each sentence needs 3-4 corrections – sometimes punctuation or capitals or missing/wrong words. It’s pretty tedious.

    If you want to go over FTWR-1 and tone it up I’ll send you a .rtf file. It’s really best to have a pair of fresh eyes look at it.

    Ideally, I could run the audo/text conversion and do the “first pass” it. Someone else could do a second pass and then a final proof read and add some graphics. The more eyes the better I think. I also have FTWR-2 ready for a second pass.

    Honestly, you’re not going to want a 100% accurate transcription. Transcribing speech directly into text makes it read poorly. Horus is a fast talker and covers a lot of ground but it doesn’t always make sense when you’re trying to read it. Some editing would be helpful.
