Accidental Comment Deletions

Posted by Bob on November 14th, 2005 under Comment Responses

I accidentally deleted a comment today, and I didn’t realize it was gone until I was looking it up to answer it.

I have to knock out a LOT of spam, and what is remarkable is how seldom I cut out a real comment by accident. But it happens.

In fact, if your comment isn’t here, please write it again. At least 90% of the time it wa accidentally erased, and you know how I love comments.

When I do delete comments, the only place I could explain it to you is in the blog, which is hte same as printing the comment. But the very few comments I have not approved so far have fallen into the following categories:

1) As announced before, where two commenters start arguing with each other over points which are NOT in the blog. If you stay on the subject, you can debate each other all you wish;

2) Strictly personal attacks by one blogger on another, which eally fits into 1), and

3) Quotes, especially EXTENDED quotes, which do not include your own personal explanation of why you are quoting. Even a quote from the Bible needs some personal context. In other, you have to do some WORK, too.

By the way, point 2) does not include me. I can handle personal comments and have been doing it for decades.

But I have also made many, many people sorry they jumped on me in the first place.

I am very good at this kind of verbal combat. In fact, I’m a pro.

Like anybody who is good at something, I really enjoy dealing with the poor bastard who gives me a chance to take off the gloves and prove it.
