PAINFUL Nostalgia

The ADL and Ariel Sharom have demanded that the top university in the Ukraine be shut down and all its tensof thousands od degress rescinded because it allows anti-Israel discussion and it awarded a PhD to David Duke.

Instead of doing the required groveling, the president of the university struck back and said ISRAEL should be shut down.

Lord, if we had anybody with guts like that!

Here is what I replied and the story I replied to:

“That article makes me PAINFULLY nostalgic.”

“Before the group that calls itself The Greatest Generation came along, that Ukrainian’s response would have been considered an AMERICAN response.”

“Back then.”

“It was just what you would have expected from a real American in the days before the obedience-trained Greatest generation took over. If some foreign government had told Americans and Europeans to close a university, we would expect Europeans to be a bit more diplomatic, but an American would say, ‘Shut me down, hell, let’s shut HIM down.'”

“My father was a critic of World War II. A government bureaucrat threatened to shut his business down if he kept criticizing.”

“My father told him, ‘You can shut me down, but you sure as hell can’t shut me UP.'”

“There are very few of us real Americans left over here, but I am overjoyed to see that that attitude is alive and well in Eastern Europe.”

“Maybe Eastern Europe will help is get our own testosterone back.”

Russian university asks UN to ‘close’ Israel
By VLADIMIR MATVEYEV / JTA

KIEV, Ukraine — Iran’s president, who wants to see a world without Israel, has a vociferous ally in Ukraine.

A Kiev-based university that already has gained international notoriety for its anti-Zionist propaganda and anti-Semitic publications now wants the United Nations to “close” Israel.

The call came in November from the Interregional Academy for Personnel Management, known by its Russian acronym MAUP, whose leadership said the United Nations should revoke its 1947 resolution on the creation of a Jewish state.

“Mankind lived without the State of Israel exactly 2,670 years, but after the second of its creation all the world feels a constant aggression of the old ‘sons of the devil,’ ” according to a university statement, published last month in the school newspaper, supporting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent call to destroy Israel.

MAUP in recent months has become a major purveyor of anti-Semitism in Ukraine. But the silence until recently of Ukrainian authorities – many of whom have ties to the university – has led to criticism from the local Jewish community, international Jewish organizations and Israeli officials…………………..

Power

If you want hours of advice on how to make and spend money, let me tell you the easiest way to get it.

Go to a bar and find a guy who needs for somebody to buy him a drink. Buy him LOTS of drinks and ask him about money. He will tell you about how to make money and how to invest money until he passes out.

It’s a little harder to find the ideal person to tell you all about power. You would have to drink with a multimillionaire. He knows all about making money, he says, so he can tell you all about how, if he wanted to take the time, he would run the country.

The average person would like to have a lot more money and a lot more power. So they think power is all about money.

One of the many conspiracies people are always talking is how Cheney, who had huge holdings in Haliburton, is trying to make off the Iraq War. I think that’s funny. But I know it’s funny not because I think Cheney is a moral paragon, but because I know a lot about human motivations.

Cheney doesn’t NEED money. He’s got more money than he can ever find any use for.

Let me tell you something else about money if you are one of the “It’s all about money” crowd. Bill Gates is tens of billions of dollars richer than Cheney, but he would give all those extra billions if he could be in Cheney’s shoes, even though he has tens of billions and Cheney has to survive with only a billion or so.

People are always talking about the Moslem Paradise and the beautfil houris each man there will have. But they don’t talk about another aspect of that Paradise. It has clean, pure, cold water running everywhere.

Mohammed lived in Saudi Arabia, where water was precious. If you are thirsty, you forget sex, money, power and everything else.

If you have water and no food, food is everything.

if you have no money, money is everything.

But when you have all those, you want power.

If money bought power Rockefeller and Steve Forbes would have been presidents.

Unlike money, power is a very complicated thing. A Rockefeller bought himself the governorship of Arkansas. But he found he really didn’t have any power there. Senator Rockefeller of West Virginia is in the same position. He bought a senate seat.

But the way the Rockefellers bought their positions was to hire professional campaign managers. Their managers told them what position on each issue they had to take to win.

But here is something people forget: a person with power is the one who MAKES positions on issues, not one who TAKES the right positions on issues. If Rockefeller weren’t taking those positions as a senator, somebody would.

So Rockefeller bought a senate seat, but he did not buy POWER.

You can buy an office. You can buy fame. But you have to spend your money following the rules set down by your campiagn managers or your press agents, and neither professional campaign managers nor press agents are interested in POWER. They are interested in winning you an office or in making you famous.

A man must provide food and water and shelter for his family. He likes to be famous or to hold office. But the ultimate goal of any man is power, the ability to change the world.

Everything else is necessity.

The guy in the bar won’t tell you that.

December 8

On December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.

On December 8, 1941 the United States Congress declared war on Japan. The one dissenting vote was, interstingly enough, the same woman who voted against declaring war in 1917. It was also interesting because in 1917 very few women had the vote, but she was in congress.

She was a consistent pacifist.

But something else happened in those twenty-four hours between December 7 and December 8. President Roosevelt was desperately trying to realize his dreamof getting the United States into the war against Germany. But, even at the height of war hysteria, he could not get the votes.

Remember, this was the pre-World War II generation, and they were not blindly obedient. So from December 7 to December 11 the United States was at war only with Japan. I say December 7 because the declaration said specifically that a state of war had existed from the moment the Japanese attacked.

That was a critical period. Newt Gingrich even wrote a novel that was based on the idea that Hitler never declared war on the United States, so the German Reich was still in existence in the 1990s.

On December 11, 1941, Hitler gave Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin the greatest gift they had ever received. He did what Roosevelt had tried so hard to do on December 7. He declared war on the United States, a white country, “on the side of heroic Japan.”

If Hitler had not given this gift to Roosevelt, the very victory he had fought for and lost, the United States’ full militray effort would have been in Asia. Even after Hitler’s declaration, newspapers complained about the effort the United States was putting in backing Britain’s war in Europe and how we were ignoring the heroes the Japanese held as prisoners who survived the Bataan Death March.

If Hitler had not declared war, every ounce of effort Roosevelt put into Europe would have been subject to the complaint that it was not going into the war effort, the war against Japan.

It is impossible to explain why Hitler took Roosevelt’s side this way and backed Roosevelt, but may have been the greatest strategic blunder in history.

Instead of a united Communist Empire, the world would have had a mutually hostile Germany and Russia.
