Joe O

Posted by Bob on August 6th, 2006 under Comment Responses

Joe says:

“Long live Joe! Even if he is a dyed-in-the-wool son of a bitch!” Now tell me that isn’t funny. I think it’s very funny. I hope nobody thinks I take it seriously or as some kind of an insult. I don’t. This is just two Irishmen whacking at each other now and again. It don’t mean nuthin’.

MY OBSERVATION

I don’t have drop of Irish in me, much less Italian, but the Boston Southies declared me an Honorary Southie.

“You don’t have a drap of Irish blood in you, Bob, but we are going to ignore that and claim you as one of us.”

So Joe O says we are two Irishmen whacking at each other. He CLAIMS me, despite my unfortunate ancestry.

Joe is understating it when he says he doesn’t “resent” me calling him a died in the wool SOB. He would settle for nothing less.

The only mistake he makes is when he says, “It don’t mean nuthin’.”

Dammit, Joe, it DOES mean nuthin’!

Nothing is harder than trying to teach correct English to a friggin’ MICK!

Ahhhhhhh! What’s that in my hand? I gotcha, Bob. As usual. I deliberately said, “it don’t mean nuthin'” to see if you could pick up on where that very popular expression was used many years ago. It’s practically part of Modern American history. Where was the expression used and who used it? And you thought you had me!

“Nothing is harder than trying to teach correct English to a friggin’ Mick!”

    Well, James Joyce learned it.
