I have drummed in the fact that ALL statemetns need the words IN MY OPINION understood in them THROUGHOUT, eg, “to promote love and brotherhood” reduces you to a retard unless you insert ” to promote what, IN MY OPINION, is love and brotehrhood.”
I have drummed in the fact that you must always ask “Why is he SAYING this?” If a person is saying blacks are nice to make blacks feel good, it has nothing to do with whether blacks are nice or not.
On the latter point a lot of peole say they believe in God becuase they could not live without faith. As C.S. Lewis said, one must believe, not for some other reason, but because it is TRUE.
Another rule, related to the first, is WHO DECIDES. A lot of people want to deal with drug abuse by saying they condemn all use of ILLEGAL drugs. This assumes that LEGAL has a mystic meaning. In the real world it is a matter of presure groups and the income AND POWER of the medical profession.
Just as many policemen want gun control to be sure they are the only high school granduates in town who can carry a gun, many doctors want to be shirt-tail Napoleans.
In South Carolina, SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) is a state-financed lobby for gun control. I hope I don’t have to explain this after the above.
