An anti-Communist was debating a Communist. The Communist opened the debate by talking about how Communism stood for the goals all good people wanted, social justice, peace, the good of all and so forth.

Several commenters have made the point that Christianity is part and parcel of the development of the West. When we think of missionaries today, we think of someone with the Gideon Bible in their hand.
When Christianity went from the Middle East to the Northern lands, we have this absurd picture still in our minds. Now for a very mundane consideration:
Do you realize how BIG the Old Testament was back then? Not to mention the PRICE! Today’s preachers have the picture of our pagan ancestors being awed by the words of Hezekiah. I think of a missionary coming in in a huge ships with the entire massive pile of scrolls encompassing a million words!
No, the missionaries brought the Gospel with them, the Good News. And they didn’t READ it, they KNEW it. It was only later, MUCH later, that the new converts, discovered that, in all the glory and poetry and wisdom and salvation and just plain goodness of those original missionaries, there was a Hook.
That Hook was the Old Testament, the ianity that has gotten its vampire jaws into the Gospel.
And with the hook came the hook-NOSES. Historians about wail how Jews were persecuted that they never notice that OUR ancestors were DENIED the Stories of our own Fathers, the Eddas, the tales of Odin and the wisdom of the Druids. Or own people were burned alive if they stood by their old religion. But The People of the Book were allowed to deny Christ and to spit whenever they passed a Christian church.
And what was The Book of the People of the Book? It was not the Gospel. It was the Hook. And in order to survive, you could deny Christ, but to stay alive you had to accept The Book. A lot of people chose to become Jews. The whole Khazar Nation did. It allowed you to loan money at interest, for one thing. For Jews usury just means charging interest to OTHER Jews.
So every time you say something about the Jews, remember WHY those universal aliens were BROUGHT into our society.
And with the Old Testament came tyranny. In my youth world History consisted of volumes from the Middle East and a couple of sentences abut the stagnant, cold Land of the Northern Barbarians.
Accepted history said that the oldest elected parliament on earth was invented in Iceland. “Democracy” was a Greek word which came from Athe3ns, which meant that the tens of thousands of the ten percent of white males who were free citizens stood on hills and shouted at each other and voted. There were no representatives
But the story had it that these Nordic refugees who made up the new population of Iceland invented an elected parliament on the spot.
As it happens, they were fleeing from a tyrant, King Harald. By a stunning coincidence, that same Harald was the first CHRISTIAN king of Norway. He was also the first KING of Norway. The name king had existed before in Northern Europe, but one-man rule was an entirely alien concept.
Guess where they go that concept? Do you see any of the Gospels demanding a king?
I have a very strong feeling that the Icelanders didn’t INVENT a representative parliament. It was business as usual for them. Moot government, where people talked things out, was routine in Germanic lands, hence the word in English. That which is not dictated by Church or Emperor is “moot.”
Freedom of speech, representative government, the pursuit of knowledge, all these things are described by the Toynbees and the Buckleys as somehow torturously deriving from the Light from the East, from the Egyptians, from the Bible.
That is why it is so hard to explain the difference between “Modern” and “Mullah.”
I think most of the values we have reassumed are REACTIONARY. They go back to the time BEFORE the Light arrived from the East. And that is why the values we think all Human Beings should ascribe to are absolutely alien to the rest of humanity.

The attempt to establish the state of Israel by murder and lies as a place from which to rule the world,promises to be the undoing of the Jewish Hook, but the bible also tells us things as “they shall look on Him who they have pierced and weep as for an only son.” “if the casting away of them be the riches of the world, what shall the gathering of them be but life fron the dead” “Those who SAY they are jews and are not” Christ knows who is who. Ianity is another jewish hook that thinks it is preaching love and salvation but is not. Ianity is an enemy, but Christ is not. This is the deception that has grown to , I think, the breaking point.

I get uncomfortable when the discussion goes into “hook noses satans” and all, but then again even a brilliant paid in full member of the tribe Stanley Kubrick directed as his last movie “Eyes Wide Shut.” For a full review see Ygg’s site (wish he would post again) Still I think dwelling on “Hebrus Omnipotentus” is self defeating, and what we need is an opus that is heartening and imagninative as to what a “white” future will be.

The Old Testament has been changed. The version we use in the West dates only to ca 1000. It differs significantly from the LXX, the version that those missionaries you speak of used. The LXX has been changed too. We know of at least four major recessions made to bring the Old Testament in line with the Jewish changes.
The Jewish changes make the Old Testament blood thirsty. The Jewish changes make God into an unjust despot. The Jewish changes remove all prophecies that Jesus was the Christ — and change “Christ” to “Messiah.”
Paul De La Garde (a German) was the first in the West to discover that the Old Testament had been changed, but his life’s work only reconstructed an old recession (the Lucianic). Of course St Justin Martyr and St Augustine had already written prolifically on the dangers of changing the Old Testament to match Jewish changes.
Jews today regard the Old Testament as something only for Christians. I wonder why?

Insightful post, Bob. The New Testament is a rejection of the Old Testament. To fail to understand this is to become a Jew in lieu of a Christian. The message of Christ is universal. It is not tribal. It is modern, It is not retrograde. The crude primitivism of Jewry is manifest. It has never been capable of the impressive intellectual constructs of Christianity or Islam. There are no great Jewish thinkers to match Aquinas or Avicenna. Yahweh is no more than a totem pole.
That being said you are spot on when describing priests. and that includes the Protestant ministry. My old, very Catholic Scots granny, hammered into me that there is a spiritual side to man that must be ministered to, but that when dealing with the clergy it was well to remember that, “The calling was sacred, not the damned fool called.” Most clergy are idiots. (It was additionally a thinly disguised caution against perversion.) Ditto, a goodly number of gas jockeys, but they mange to fill up the tanks. Few tasks require any ability outside of the physical basics.
Religion can be taken with a grain of salt. I find no incompatibility in being very Catholic, theologically agnostic and very anticlerical. No contradictions there.

This is Trager Smith, though I’m logged in a Peter, who is no doubt a fine man. Just exactly what is the “good news” that Jesus brought? As I read the Bible, God got so fed up with His creation that He decided to end Heaven and Earth, but not Hell, which did not exist before then, except as a bone yard,
which is what the Hebrew word sheol means. (Ask any Jew. For them Hell is not a burning issue.) What exactly was going on during the early Roman Empire that so aroused God’s wrath?
I certainly don’t know. God should have been more patient. The later Roman Empire was much more decadent.
So the Lord decides to relent a bit. If only you would give up your most precious resource, that which makes up human, namely the brain, and drop all critical thinking,
and beg to Jesus to forgive you of sins against some very stupid commandments, like not planting two crops in a field (there were 619 ofthem in the OT), accept this on faith, and not on evidence, why you wouldn’t have to roast in this freshly created Hell.
No Northern European with a modicum of self-respect, one would think, would accept the offer.
But accept it they did and rammed this outrageous theology down the throats of other Europeans.
The Mormons are the only bunch of Christians who have an explanation. They hold that god was once a man and became god through a process called glorification. So the god how created Heaven and Earth is better than we are but still have a lot of our faults. This is readily apparent from His actions in the OT, which are full of petty wrath and vengeance. (Go read Jack Miles’s God: A Biography).
The cool thing is that, if you make it to the Mormon Heaven, you too can become glorified. This will give you a chance to start up your own universe and make improvements over the present one, just as the Constitution of the CSA was an improvement over the illegal one of 1787, which set up the Union.
I think I might gladly confess my alleged sins, like wearing clothing of linen and cloth together, in exchange for the ability to get glorified and start up a new universe. I’d make sure there were no goddam Christians in it.
Well, maybe I couldn’t. Give ’em free will and someone is bound to come up with it again.

Hey, I put down a totally fundamental objection with this whole “good news” business. Basically, it’s I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is that I am fed up with My creation and am going to put an end to Earth and Heaven, but not Hell. The good news is that you can keep out of Hell if you surrender your most precious quality, your reason.
I await an answer, but I’m afraid I’ll be ignored.
A note about the Septuagint. This was, of course, the first translation of the Old Testament. It is the one used by the N.T. authors. It contains not only what is now in the Hebrew bible but what we call the Aprocrapha, several other books Roman Catholics but not Protestants accept into their canon. Now the NT authors sometimes refered to passages in the Apocrapha as well as to the current Hebrew TaNaK, which stands for Torah (the five books of Moses, the Niviim (the Writings), and the Ketuvim (the Profits, er Prophets).
Well, I was just reading in L. Michael White (religion prof at U. Texas, with whom I chatted for half an hour at the best exhibit of old Bibles I’ll ever see (competent people LIKE to talk with me!), From Jesus to Christianity, that the Jews did not take well to Christian uses of these “apocrypal” writings during the early second century.
So, OUT THEY WENT (p. 387f.). They did not get passed down in their Hebrew form. Whether they exist in Hebrew MSS among the Dead Sea Scrolls, I don’t now, for I lent out my copy of _Dead Sea Scrolls Bible_ and can’t look it up. (What you usually get is the non-Biblical stuff. as it would seem pointless to include the Bible. What’s apparent is that the Dead Sea Scrolls of fragments of most of the books of the OT differ only in minor matters from the Hebrew MSS of much later dates. No really big surprise here: the faithful would copy works of their faith faithfully, wouldn’t they?)
Now we Aryans, atheist and Christian alike, have become so enchanted with the Jews that we imagine that their religion evolved along its own preordained course. The idea that they are just people and would tamper with their sacred writings violates a huge understanding all of us share.
Larger context: Max Weber, who coined “protestant ethic” and “routinization of charisma” also coined the “disenchantment of the world” (Die Entzauberung der Welt, de-magicification not disenchantment, really). His idea was that, as the world more and more subject to cause and effect, magic as a mode of understanding declines. It’s said that French peasants in the last quarter of the 19th century were that last to kick out angels and demons as explanations of crop successes and failures when the effects of FERTILIZER became manifest.
Thus, the secularization thesis, namely that as the world becomes more modern it becomes more secular. This trend went into reverse about half a century ago, as is painfully manifest on this very list. Even in Europe, although traditional Christianity is declining, New Age religions, which got going in 17th century Germany, are taking up the slack.
And everyone subscribes to the Re-enchantment of the Jews, atheist or not. The whole Holocaust business is between enchanted Jews and enchanted Nazis, who operate demonic machinery and misuse and pervert science. Lenin and Mao’s slaughter amount to less, for they did not kill enchanted beings and they did not use a demonic enchanted science to do so. (Don’t ask whether the received account of the gas chambers is more on the order of an enchanted legend than in strict accordance with the facts, as you’ll upset everyone except the Revisionists. But scratch one, and you’ll find that he too holds that the Jews are enchanted, merely in the opposite direction. Objectivity cannot prevail over our apparent need to re-enchant the world.)
And so, even I had thought the Jewish religion would evolve on its own magisterial way, above the mundane earth. I am immensely grateful for Professor White’s correction.
